New soccer team in Bowling Green has range of diversity and experience

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The new UPSL soccer team in Bowling Green officially has their first roster after having tryouts the past couple of weeks.

They had over 100 men try out for the team called Bowling Green FC. On Sunday night they announced the 25 players plus the five reserves.

They have guys that have played college, former semi-pro and younger players that are still in high school which brings a wide range of experience.

Head coach Evan Sutherland said that over the past decade, the popularity of the sport has skyrocketed in Bowling Green, part of it due to the large immigrant and refugee population. He explains more.

“We have a melting pot of players, diversity. We have Bosnian players, we have Burmese players, we have Hispanic players, we have American players, we have it all the way across the board. So what will be interesting is our style of play, integrating younger players, college players with you know more experience,” said Sutherland.

Their first friendly match is scheduled for a date in February, and they hope to release more game dates soon.
