New roundabouts approved for Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – More roundabouts are coming to Bowling Green with hopes of speeding up traffic in a residential area.

The Bowling Green City Commissioners voted to install two new roundabouts near Old Morgantown Road and to enhance an existing roundabout at the intersection of Crossings Blvd and Chasefield Avenue.

These new roundabouts will be at the intersections of Cove Drive and Parkside Drive as well as the intersection of North Sunrise Drive, Cove Drive, and Woodway Street.

The roundabouts are costing the city $365,000 coming from fuel tax funds as well as budgeted money already set aside by the City of Bowling Green.

“We already have the money. We are not borrowing anything. There is no borrowing to fund these particular new projects,” said Bowling Green City Commissioner Sue Parrigin.

These additions are to allow vehicles to move through intersections more smoothly without having to come to a complete stop.

Bowling Green officials say they believe other roundabouts in the city are working well and hope the new ones will benefit the area.

“The city has a several roundabouts, a couple in the transpark and of course the big one that everybody knows about is University Blvd. and 31W,” said Mayor Bruce Wilkerson.

Wilkerson expects the projects to be completed by the end of June.
