NBC News projects Rep. Andy Barr as winner of Republican primary

KENTUCKY – Rep. Andy Barr has won the Republican primary in the race for retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell’s seat in Kentucky, NBC News projects.

President Donald Trump weighed in on the race and endorsed Barr, as did U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie.

One of his many challengers in the Republican primary, Nate Morris, dropped out of the race following Trump’s endorsement.

According to unofficial statewide results on the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s website at 6:30 p.m., Barr received 63% of the vote with 28,047 total votes. Those same unofficial results state that Daniel Cameron received 28% of the vote, with 12,625 total votes, followed by Michael James Farris at 3% with 1,129 votes, George Washington at 2% with 717 votes, Anissa Catlett at 1% with 473 votes, Valerie “Dr. Val” Fredrick at 1% with 465 votes, Jonathan M. Holliday at 1% with 382 votes, James D. Duncan at 1% with 313 votes, A. Nick Shelley at 1% with 278, Jimmy I. Leon with 86 votes and Donald Wenzel with 87 votes.
