Mother accused of intentionally harming her infant out on surety bond

GLASGOW, Ky. – A Glasgow mother has been released from jail after officials accused her of assault and criminal abused of a child 12 years old or under.

Authorities say 21-year-old mother, Brittney Benigni, intentionally injured her 4-month-old daughter.

According to her citation, officials say Benigni told them she shook and struck her child multiple times on June 10.

Benigni also told authorities she went outside to smoke a cigarette and put her headphones on to drown out the child’s cries.

The citation says the infant was treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for possible life-altering injuries.

Benigni was charged with 1st degree assault, and 1st degree criminal abuse child 12 or under.

Now, she is out on a surety bond for $25,000.

In order to abide by the stipulations of the surety, Benigni must follow a seven to seven curfew, refrain from the use of drugs or alcohol, refrain from any new arrests, and must make all court, counsel, medical, and therapeutic appointments.
