Medical miracle: “backwards” organs

(KGW) Doctors are calling a late Oregon woman a medical marvel.

Rose Marie Bentley was born with her major internal organs on the wrong side of her body, but this wasn’t discovered until after she died. What’s even more remarkable: She lived much longer with this condition than anyone thought possible.

Bentley was 99 when she died. She was a beautician and a mother to five children, a grandmother to many grandchildren.

When she died, Rose Marie donated her body to science.

It was last spring when students and professors at Oregon Health & Science University inadvertently discovered her rare condition.

“This condition is called situs inversus with levocardia, and there are a couple different forms,” explains Dr. Cam Walker.
