Man carried sleeping wife to safety during house fire

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A fire consumed most of a home on Hilton Court in Warren County overnight nearly killing a resident.

That woman’s husband is being credited with saving her life.

While Kristin Holloway was sleeping, her husband Joshua Lee Holloway got a message while at work saying his home was on fire.

He rushed back to the house to find smoke rolling out of an air vent.

The fire department had not yet arrived when Joshua made a decision to crawl through the smoke and flames to get his wife.

“The only thing I knew to do was, my wife was in the back room, and I wasn’t going to let her burn up in a fire so, I opened our garage door. At that point the smoke had already overtaken the whole apartment, and I chose to, I had to crawl all the way to the very back of the apartment,” said Joshua Holloway.

After finding Kristin in the smoke, Joshua was able to get her to safety.

“She got woken up by the blankets on top of the bed catching on fire on top of her and I called her name and she had already inhaled so much smoke and she was delirious and she didn’t which direction was what so I actually had to, like, guide her down the hallway crawling, and once I got out she collapsed,” Holloway said.

After Kristin was treated for multiple burns to her body, the newly married couple returned to the ashes today in search of her wedding rings, one of which is a sentimental family heirloom from her late grandmother.

The couple celebrated their first anniversary only two weeks ago.
