Local nonprofit receives grant that will improve transportation for clients

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green nonprofit was awarded a sizeable grant to help families in the community.

Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center, a 501c3 agency, received a $2,500 grant from J.M. Smucker Company on Friday.

The grant will be used to purchase gas cards for families who are experiencing a crisis.

Executive director of the Barren River Child Advocacy Center, Leah Thompson, says families benefit from direct community support.

“You know, that can really be a burden on a family, to have to spend gas money coming, coming to and from the center regularly. So, it’s been very well received from our families to have that level of support, from our community,” Thompson said.

Barren River Area Child Advocacy Center provides critical services to children who have experienced sexual abuse, such as forensic interviews, medical exams and trauma therapy.

BRACAC will host an open house, called the Jingle and Mingle, on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4:30 pm to 6:30 p.m. at its office located at 103 E. 12th Ave. in Bowling Green.
