Glasgow law enforcement hosts ‘Cram the Cruiser’ school supply drive

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Glasgow Police Department has partnered with Glasgow Independent Schools and Barren County Schools for this year’s annual “Cram the Cruiser” school supply drive.

Officers and educators collected donations outside the Glasgow Walmart and several Dollar General stores to help stock classrooms ahead of the new school year.

The supplies will be distributed to students in both the Glasgow Independent and Barren County school districts.

Organizers say events like “Cram the Cruiser” ensure students have the tools they need to start the school year ready to learn while also easing the financial burden on local families.

“You know, a lot of, a lot of kids, you know, not able to, to to, all the paper and all the stuff at the school as well. So this gives us in the community a chance to help those kids out,” said Glasgow Public Information Officer Terry Flatt. “The school system and the counselors make sure that those kids are provided what they need to start and end a good school year.”

Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent Chad Mulenkamp said the event highlights the community’s commitment to education.

“You know, it’s just always a great day to be a Scottie anytime we’re able to partner with the community, to see the support from the community and know that they truly are invested in the success of our students,” said Mulenkamp.

For those who missed the event but still want to help, both Barren County and Glasgow have several back-to-school bashes scheduled for early August.
