Local craftsman raising money for Trooper Phillips’ family with car decals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Trooper Hayden Phillips leaves behind a legacy that will always be remembered. A local craftsman is helping south-central Kentucky and those nationwide remember the man behind badge 369.

“Just need to, you know, kind of help remember Hayden and continue on his legacy and his memory,” said Chris Cross, the owner of Crosswired Creations.

Phillips tragically died in the line of duty Sept. 28 during a routine traffic stop. Now, the community mourns the Bluegrass hero who wore a badge in exchange for a cape.

Chris Cross has been creating decals, shirts and more to remember Phillips.

He said what started off as a simple order exceeded his expectations, and what once was a Kentucky order took a national turn.

“It was also a shock. I was like, ‘wow these things are going fast,’” Cross said.

He sold out of decals within the first couple of days. Cross said the support truly shows the heart of Phillips for his community.

“He was doing what his calling was, you know, he took an oath to protect and serve this great state of Kentucky, and he did it every single day,” he said.

All funds raised from each purchase of decals and shirts goes back to Phillip’s family.

“What’s great is that everything we’re doing, all the proceeds with these decals and everything we’re doing with shirts and so forth are going to Hayden’s family. It’s such an unimaginable loss for them. We’re just trying to do a little something to help show support and continue on Hayden’s memory,” Cross said.

He said after attending Phillip’s funeral, seeing all law enforcement from surrounding states and more truly displayed the loyalty of the badge. Each person in law enforcement displayed the loyalty of a family away from family.

“It was just the most powerful thing. I hope I never have to do that again, but it was one of the most powerful things seeing the impact that Hayden made,” he said.

Cross said every purchase from local to statewide and nationally shows solidarity and that servitude is truly the heart of America and that Phillips leaves behind a legacy and honorable life of such.

“When people see it, just remember Hayden and what he stood for and what he sacrificed for us here in the state of Kentucky,” Cross said.
