KSP, Warren County Emergency Management offer road safety tips for Memorial Day weekend
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, it’s important to stay safe while traveling to and from your summer destinations.
“Anytime we have a holiday or big event in Kentucky, we always want to remind motorists to take your time, just reduce your speed. Really pay attention to what’s going on the roadway because there’s going to be a lot more cars on the interstate, on the highways,” Trooper Daniel Priddy of Kentucky State Police says.
Reducing your speed, wearing a seatbelt and avoiding alcoholic beverages while driving are common tips, but Warren County Emergency Management has some you may not think of too often.
“Make sure that before you leave that your vehicle’s in good working condition. So make sure that the oil’s where it’s supposed to be. You have good tires, good wipers, things like that. Make sure you have a good, clear view of your drive and you know where you’re going and how to get there,” Casey Archey says.
This weekend specifically, KSP will be out on the highways and interstates enforcing the Click It or Ticket program.
“Through the Memorial Day weekend, state police will be participating in Click It or Ticket campaign. So we will be focusing a lot of our efforts on seatbelt usage. So we’re reminding motorists to make sure you have that seatbelt on if you’re traveling this weekend and throughout the summer.”
Warren County Emergency Management also says if you’re heading to a party, be sure to let the hosts know when you plan to arrive so they have ample time to prepare.
