KSP investigating drowning death of Bowling Green man after crash in Barren County

LUCAS, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a drowning death after a crash in Barren County.

According to Public Affairs Officer Katan Parker, the Barren County Sheriff’s Office contacted KSP about a single-vehicle fatal collision at 1149 State Park Road in Lucas just after midnight Wednesday.

KSP’s preliminary investigation indicates that an SUV driven by 18-year-old Jose Castillo, of Bowling Green, was traveling north on State Park Road when it drove off the end of State Park Road and into a body of water. The end of the road is a boat ramp into Barren River Lake.

Parker says Castillo and a juvenile passenger were able to exit the SUV through the windows. The juvenile swam safely to the shore. Castillo was unable to swim and drowned.

The investigation is ongoing.
