KSP: 3 dead following fatal crash in Barren County

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has released further information on three deaths resulting from a fatal crash in Barren County.

On Friday, Jan. 13 shortly after 12:30 p.m., KSP Post 3 responded to a fatal collision. Troopers arrived at the scene at the intersection of KY-90 (Happy Valley Road) and Harry King Road.

According to KSP, a preliminary investigation revealed Robert E. Purcell, 74, of Louisville, was driving a 2023 Chevrolet commercial vehicle west on KY-90 near the intersection of Harry King Road.

Purcell’s vehicle crossed the center line for unknown reasons, entering into the path of oncoming traffiic, according to KSP. Authorities say Purcell’s vehicle then struck a 2016 Chevrolet pickup driven by Matthew Webb, 48, of Bonnieville head-on.

Purcell and Webb were pronounced dead at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office.

A passenger in Webb’s vehicle, Matthew E. Shrock, 37, of Munfordville, was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow and later to Tri-Star Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, where he succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
