Kids learn disaster preparedness through ‘Be a Hero’ event

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-The Foundry wants its youngest community members to be safe in any type of situation.

On Saturday, the Christian Community Church partnered with Barren River District Health to invite the public to bring their kiddos for a free event.

The ‘Be a Hero’ themed program featured booths and games to help families be prepared for natural disasters.

Kids could decorate their own masks and capes, and hear a reading of the book A Hero Like Me.

“They have been so excited. It taps into you know, everyone wants to be a superhero but to be able to say you can do this and you can help take care of yourself and other people and your family, they get super excited,” said the Foundry Mission Director Shawna Wood.

All families that attended received a free wind-up flashlight and free wind-up emergency radio.
