Kentucky inmate accused of helping jailer plot assault
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A Kentucky inmate accused of helping a jailer plot and cover up an assault on a fellow inmate has been indicted on charges including conspiracy.
The Lexington Herald-Leader reports 29-year-old Corey Lynn Hopper was indicted last week on charges in the 2015 attack on Joshua Reece. Court documents say Reece was being booked into jail when he was recognized by then jailer William A. Carey, who believed Reece had previously dated and abused Carey’s wife.
They say Carey then recruited Hopper to help attack Reece. Records say Hopper got other inmates to help beat Reese, who was then forced to help take part in covering up the assault. Carey pleaded guilty in April to violating the constitutional right of a victim to be free from unreasonable force.
