Judge-Executive Wil Cannon won’t run for re-election

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A face well known to the Edmonson County community has announced he will not be running for re-election.

Judge-Executive Wil Cannon is a fixture for his community after having served in law enforcement for 23 years combined.

For several years, Cannon was a trooper for Kentucky State Police, then he joined the Brownsville Police Department and was also the Edmonson County Sheriff for some time.

Now, after winning two elections as county judge-executive, Cannon has decided not to run again.

“I love helping people but I am at the point where I’m ready to retire and sometimes it’s best for new blood to come in, new thoughts, new ideas, new vigor about the job, enthusiasm. You know, after you’ve been here a while, that stuff starts to diminish a little bit. So sometimes, having someone new come in full of energy and ready to roll is a good thing,”

Cannon says he plans to spend his time in retirement with his grandchildren and taking care of his parents.
