NY Times says it needs culture change, better inclusion

NEW YORK (AP) — In a report to its employees this week, The New York Times says it needs a culture change to become a better place to work, particularly for people of color. The report outlined several steps to help achieve that, including a 50 percent increase in the number of Blacks and Latinos in leadership roles in the newspaper over five years. The internal study found a “sink or swim” culture that prizes individual achievement isn’t consistent with a greater need for collaboration. Like many news organizations, The Times took a look inward at its practices following the national reaction to the death of George Floyd.
