Hope Harbor offering EDMR therapy to trauma survivors

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Hope Harbor is taking clients for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing therapy, also known as EMDR.

The therapy is shown to help with survivors of trauma who are experiencing PTSD symptoms. The clinic works with many sexual assault survivors.

They use rapid eye movement to process the traumatic memory and it alleviates symptoms that are heightened during the memory like flashbacks, nightmares and panic attacks.

It differs from other therapies like talk therapy, as sometimes the victims have trouble telling their story. Therapist Ali Beckner says why this is beneficial.

“It’s really hard to go in and tell your entire story to a complete stranger. So I think this is a way people can tell little bits about their story and really get down to the deep core of what the past trauma has  made them think about themselves,” said Beckner.

People can make an appointment by messaging them on their social media or by calling 270-846-1100.
