Former transportation cabinet employee allegedly steals nearly $90,000

MAYFIELD, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a Tennessee man for felony theft in Kentucky.

According to KSP, detectives began investigating thefts at the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Licensing Regional Office in Mayfield after receiving information from the KYTC Office of Inspector General.

Police say that Hunter Simmons, a former Administrative Section Supervisor for the Mayfield and Paducah Driver Licensing Regional Officers, stole $88,688.50 in payments. KYTC employed Simmons from April 2024 to January 2026.

An investigation at the Paducah office is ongoing, according to KSP.

A Graves County grand jury indicted Simmons on May 12. Simmons is charged with theft by unlawful taking (greater than $10,000 but less than $1,000,000).

Simmons currently resides in Bradford, Tennessee. He was arrested by the Gibson County, Tennessee, Sheriff’s Office on May 19.

According to KSP, Simmons was extradited to Kentucky and lodged at the Graves County Restricted Custody Center. He was served the indictment warrant. Simmons could face additional charges in McCracken County.

The investigation is ongoing.
