Former Kentucky jail employee charged after alleged sexual relationship with inmate
EDDYVILLE, Ky. – A former Kentucky State Penitentiary employee is charged with rape and sodomy after allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with an inmate.
According to Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky Department of Corrections contacted detectives on July 28 following an internal investigation into an alleged sexual relationship between former employee Raven West, 23, of Paducah, and an inmate.
During the investigation, KSP detectives interviewed West and the inmate.
West is charged with two counts of third-degree rape, one count of third-degree sodomy and one (1) count of first-degree official misconduct. She was arrested and lodged at the Crittenden County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing.
KSP released the following statement:
The Kentucky Department of Corrections does not tolerate any behaviors that undermine the security of a prison, the successful supervision of probation and parole clients, or public safety. For those employees who choose to violate the law or Department policy, the Department will respond accordingly.
Raven West was employed by the Department as a Corrections Recreation Leader at the Kentucky State Penitentiary. West submitted her resignation on July 29, which has been accepted with prejudice, and she will not be permitted to work for the Department or any other agency within the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet.
