Emergency personnel respond to Central City home explosion

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. – One person sustained severe injuries in a Central City home explosion Tuesday morning.

According to the Central City Fire Department (CCFD), units responded to the 400 block of North 5th Street to a reported home explosion.

CCFD says one adult man was found with severe burns and “significant injuries.” The man was flown to a regional trauma center for treatment.

CCFD says the fire is contained and an investigation is underway. The Kentucky Fire Marshal is on scene.

Officials say four other homes were damaged as a result of the explosion. Officials say the residents have been displaced and are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

CCFD is asking the public to avoid the area while the investigation is being conducted.
