Delafield Co-op Market opens to expand food choices

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A new food co-op has opened in the Delafield neighborhood.

The co-op is able to provide the neighborhood with access to fresh veggies and meat. They are closed on the weekend and Monday, but they are open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The market is aimed at residents who live in the largest food desert of the city.

In 2018 and 2019, the concept of a food co-op had been discussed to be brought to Bowling Green. Before Delafield co-op started, they had a pilot program that received positive results.

“Just a lack of more or less of a food desert here where there’s a lack of access to fresh food and meat and so a lot of our neighbors who don’t necessarily have transportation or they have to go outside their community to get access of those types of foods, have expressed that interest in wanting to be able to get that closer to where they live,” Alan Casada, Director of Operations for Hotel Inc.

Within two years, Delafield was able to bring fresh produce to their neighbors and community.
