Intelligence officials have confirmed that Russia and Iran are actively working to meddle in the upcoming U.S. election, and were responsible for recent emails threatening Florida voters. NBC's Tracie Potts reports.

(NBC News) — Intelligence officials have confirmed that Russia and Iran are actively working to meddle in the upcoming U.S. election.

Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe and FBI Director Christopher Wray announced Wednesday that Iran and Russia have obtained voter information, and that Iran was behind recent emails to Florida voters urging them to switch parties and vote Republican.

“These actions are desperate attempts by desperate adversaries,” Ratcliffe said.

“We are not going to tolerate foreign interference in our elections,” Wray said, adding “You should be confident that your vote counts.”

Iran has denied the allegations, calling them absurd.

Separately, a cybersecurity firm says hackers are selling public voter registration data for 186 million Americans.
