Cave City woman found dead after house fire

The Cave City Fire Department responded to a call about a possible house fire down this remote road in Cave City on Saturday afternoon.

When fire crews arrived to the mobile home at 720 Jenny Road, flames had engulfed the entire residence, even causing some of it to collapse.

“I spoke with what ended up being a cousin, that was actually the caller, of the lady that lived at the residence. She said, ‘I’m thinking she’s in there her vehicle is there so she is probably there’.” says Kevin Poynter, the Cave City Fire Department Battalion Chief.

Firefighters searched what was left of the mobile home and found the body of, 63-year-old, Christine Wilkins.

A nearby neighbor says she saw the flames, but at first she didn’t realize where they were coming from.

“We waited a few minutes and went back to the door and he said it is Christine’s place, about that time we heard the sirens and we knew it was Christine’s place then. I had a feeling that, like I said, if her truck was there, she was there too.” says Hazel Hunt, a nearby neighbor.

The Hunt’s say Christine was friendly, but she often kept to herself.

They say its been about three years since they have seen her.

Wilkins’ body was taken to Louisville for an autopsy. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
