Breaking barriers on the baseball diamond

(KSL/NBC News) Baseball is generally considered a male dominated sport, but don’t tell that to Julianna Ahrend.

The hard-nosed coach has gained a reputation as a no-nonsense teacher, and according to her players it’s working.

“When we were in Little League, we were all scared of her because she had this intensity that none of the other coaches had,” laughs Noah Rice.

Ahrend has been involved with little league for years.

The first thing you’ll notice is her intensity.

“She really plays to win and that’s a good thing,” says player Diego Esparza.

“To me, I’m just out here playing ball teaching them a couple things,” Ahrend says.

When it comes to baseball fundamentals, though, her players say she’s as good as anyone.
