Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society asking for straw donations

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society is always taking donations, but as the cold months creep in, it is now in need of a more uncommon object.

Straw is vital to upkeep for the shelter’s animals during the cold months.

The shelter has around 48 kennels for its animals, and some have shelters outdoors.

While the shelter makes sure the animals have what they need, and some animals are built better for colder weather, straw is what ensures the animals stay comfortable during those colder months of the year.

“The straw is great for providing a natural insulation barrier in those kennels. It’s fresher, it’s easier to kind of handle than just, you know, throwing blanket after blanket in there. The dogs really seem to enjoy it. The livestock seem to enjoy it whenever we do have livestock here,” said Brandon Taylor, the shelter’s operations manager.

If you would like to donate, the shelter says that you can stop by anytime during their hours of operation and drop off as much straw as you’re willing to donate.
