Bowling Green man charged with child sexual exploitation offenses in Virginia

CULPEPER, Va. – A Bowling Green man is facing child sexual exploitation charges in Virginia.

According to the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office, investigators received a report of possible sexual assault involving a minor in June 2026.

Detectives say a minor was solicited and exploited online on the social media platform Tumblr.

During the investigation, detectives used open-source intelligence and public records to identify one suspect as 29-year-old Cody Chaffin of Bowling Green.

The Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office told WNKY News 40 that the Warren County Sheriff’s Office arrested Chaffin and later extradited to Culpeper County.

According to the Warren County Regional Jail website, Chaffin was booked on Aug. 23.

Chaffin is charged with five counts of possession of child pornography, five counts of use of a communication system to solicit, entice, or promote sexual activity with a minor.

“These cases are slow and tedious by nature,” said Captain Jason Deal, Commander of the Culpeper County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division. “There is no shortcut. Detectives spend weeks reading through accounts and subpoenas, one at a time, to put a real name on someone hiding behind a screen. It is hard work but necessary to protect our community.”

The investigation is ongoing.
