Bowling Green man charged after stolen handgun found in Logan County

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is behind bars in Logan County after allegedly possessing a stolen handgun.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says on Saturday, it was conducting a traffic enforcement on U.S. 79 south when a deputy observed a vehicle speeding northbound toward Russellville. Authorities say the deputy lost sight of the vehicle, however, they located the vehicle parked near J. Montgomery Road.

The driver was identified as 47-year-old Golden D. Bowman of Bowling Green.

Authorities say Bowman had been walking up from a ditch near the woods before driving away in a vehicle matching the given description.

Deputies say during a traffic stop, Bowman stated he had “thrown his wallet out of the vehicle” and that he “was attempting to locate it” in the ditch.

Authorities say during a vehicle search, no illegal items were located, leading them to release Bowman from the stop.

However, authorities say they deployed K-9 Luna, who recovered a handgun nearby that was confirmed stolen out of Warren County in 2019.

With assistance from Auburn police, Bowman was located and arrested.

Bowman faces charges of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, tampering with physical evidence and receiving stolen property (firearm).
