Batter up! Special Olympians tuning up for BG softball state tourney
13th Annual Special Olympics KY
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. –Over 500 Special Olympics Kentucky athletes are packing their cleats, because this Friday, The State Softball Tournament returns to Bowling Green.
30 teams and three skills teams will hit the fields at Michael O. Buchanon Park to compete in the State Tournament and Team Skills Competition Friday and Saturday.
You can cheer on the athletes beginning Friday night at 6:30 and again on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.
Special Olympian Caitlin Roy said, “It’s just a really, really fun weekend seeing all the teams play!”
If you have young kids tagging along Saturday, the event will feature a Young Athletes Festival from 9 a.m. to noon. Children around 2 to 7-years-old can join games, activities, giveaways and more.
Special Olympics Kentucky Director of Sports and Competition Holly Vincent says many of the athletes are looking forward to the end-of-season dance Saturday at 6 p.m. after the games.
Stoneybrooke Farm Food Truck serve up grub at the tourney, so come hungry!
