McGrath meets local voters at Bowling Green campaign stop

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Amy McGrath stopped in southcentral Kentucky this week, meeting with voters and outlining her priorities as she campaigns across the state.
McGrath says her campaign is centered on addressing rising costs for families and ensuring Kentucky has an independent voice in Washington.
“I think we need a senator who will be a voice for Kentucky and Kentuckians,” McGrath said. “Not necessarily a voice for Mar-A-Lago, but somebody that will stand up… and protect us.”
Economic concerns were a major focus during her visit. McGrath pointed to increasing grocery and gas prices as a growing burden for many Kentuckians.
“Grocery prices are up… gas is at 4.19 a gallon,” she said. “We got to get this stuff down.”
She says eliminating tariffs and addressing global conflicts could help bring some relief to consumers.
“Let’s get rid of these tariffs… let’s stop this war in Iran and try to get prices down for people,” McGrath said.
McGrath also drew a contrast between herself and other candidates in the race, arguing that her focus would remain on Kentucky rather than national political figures.
“Their loyalty is to Mar-A-Lago and to one man,” she said. “My loyalty is to Kentucky.”
She says that approach would guide her decisions in the Senate, supporting policies that benefit the state regardless of political party.
“If there’s a good idea from the White House that’s good for Kentucky, I’ll be for it,” McGrath said. “But if there isn’t, then I will be against it.”
A Marine veteran, McGrath says her military service shapes her leadership style and willingness to take a stand.
“I’m not a coward. I’m a United States Marine,” she said. “I’m going to stand up and do what’s right for Kentucky.”
In addition to economic concerns, McGrath is also proposing what she describes as practical government reforms.
“If there’s a government shutdown, guess who doesn’t get paid? Congress doesn’t get paid,” she said.
As the campaign continues, McGrath says her focus will remain on lowering costs, reforming government, and advocating for Kentucky voters.
