Kentucky House Bill 500 and House Bill 900 updates

SOUTH CENTRAL, KY.- The two main budget bills, Kentucky House Bill 500 and House Bill 900, were passed.

House Bill 500, which specifically deals with the Kentucky state budget, has officially passed and has been delivered to the Secretary of State.

Experts say around $30 billion will be allocated for general funds for the next 2 years.

Jennifer A. Jackson, M.D., is the President of the League of Women Voters, and she says, “HB 900 kind of started out as a one-page bill on March 4th that has sort of broad language. It didn’t have a lot of details on how to spend this $800 million. And they replace that bill with a 58-page version, which then ballooned the spending to $1.7 billion.”

House Bill 500 and House Bill 900 both passed the legislature and were signed with veto overrides.  For more information on House Bill 500, click here. More information on House Bill 900 can be found here.
