Allen County set to receive state funding for water and sewer infrastructure, CCK expansion

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Allen County is set to receive nearly $6 million to fund projects through House Bill 900.
According to a media release, Rep. Shawn McPherson, R-Scottsville, and Senate Majority Floor Leader Max Wise, R-Campbellsville, announced the funding for water and sewer improvements, environmental upgrades and investment in Center for Courageous Kids in Scottsville.
Allen County will receive $2 million in fiscal year 2027 and $2 million in fiscal year 2028 for the Allen County Water District
The county will receive $404,000 in fiscal year 2026 for the Allen County Fiscal Court to cover construction and engineering costs associated with installation of a leachate collection system at the county transfer station and $1.5 million in fiscal year 2027 for Project C.A.M.P., doing business as the Center for Courageous Kids, to support construction of a new art barn and medical lodge at the Scottsville camp, according to the release.
The Center for Courageous Kids’ new art barn will expand to include traditional arts and crafts areas, digital media and photography labs, a podcast studio and a dedicated zone for sensory-friendly activities
What They Are Saying
“The Center for Courageous Kids is one of those places that truly changes lives,” McPherson said. “Families come here from all over, and what they find is not just care, but a place where kids can experience joy, independence and a sense of normalcy. Expanding those facilities means more children can be served and more families can benefit from what this camp offers.”
“This is a great example of what can happen when local leadership and community partners come together around something that truly matters,” Wise said. “I want to thank Rep. McPherson for his work on this, along with the many people who support the Center for Courageous Kids and the other projects that local leaders in Allen County are making possible. These are investments that will make a difference.”
“This investment is incredibly meaningful for the future of camp and the families we serve. We are grateful to Rep. McPherson, Sen. Wise, and our state leaders for recognizing the life-changing impact The Center for Courageous Kids has on children with disabilities and lifelong illnesses. This funding allows us to expand our spaces in ways that directly support confidence, independence, and connection for every camper who comes through our gates. The addition of a new art barn or medical lodge will help us meet growing needs while continuing to provide a safe, accessible, and joyful experience at no cost to families. We are proud to call Kentucky home and thankful for the continued belief in our mission,” said CCK CEO Darren Dannelly.
