Judge Sam Potter retires

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Warren District Judge Sam Potter is retiring and many people at the Warren County Justice Center threw him a farewell party.
Potter has served as a judge in Warren County for 25 years.
He is a husband and father.
Potter says every day working as a judge is something new and different and he says he really enjoyed.
Potter says all the changes with COVID took a lot out of him and this decision was one he had been leaning toward for several years now.
“My term ended at the end of next year anyway, but after this year of COVID, it just didn’t work. You had to call people on the phone. They didn’t come in person, so it was so backlogged, and it just felt like it was time,” said Potter.
The state judicial nominating committee has selected three Bowling Green attorneys as a possible replacement to fill the remainder of Potter’s term. Gov. Andy Beshear can either chose a replacement or leave the bench vacant until the November 2022 election.
While the court waits for the official appointment of the next judge, Potter will continue to serve as needed to help keep the workload for other judges manageable.
