Barren County seniors prepare for the future

GLASGOW Ky.- Here at Barren County High School, the seniors attend a talk called bring it Barren, which is a senior work ethics kickoff aimed at preparing students to enter college, a technical school or the workforce.

In this event, students can win scholarships to colleges like South Central Community and Technical College and Western Kentucky University. They’ll also get training and market themselves for jobs through the lessons of others.

The students had the chance to hear from professionals who went through their own trials back in their younger years. One of the guests at the kick off was Barren County Judge Executive Micheal Hale.

“You can’t prepare yourself enough, not in this day and time. It takes money to do it, it takes effort to do it. I would tell them, whatever you can apply for, apply for it. If an opportunity comes your way, take it,” Hale said.

In addition to all of this, Hale also talked about the importance of making connections.

“I always tell people that our educational system, our teachers, our counselors, and it goes all the way to our principals, our maintenance people, our cafeteria people…they’re all workforce builders. They try to make positive impacts on our students daily. It’s not just when school’s out. A lot of them keep up in the summertime as well. I’m glad to be a small part of it. We’re tagged as a work ready community, and we need to work hard to keep that tag,” Hale said.
