Seniors at Allen County-Scottsville High School participate in senior signing event
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky.-Seniors at Allen County-Scottsville High School had the chance to present what they would like to do in the next chapter of life.
A signing day event took place Wednesday morning where soon to be graduates could highlight their intention of what college they will attend, what career path they’ll take or if they plan to join the military. Students say they’re grateful for the opportunity.
“Honestly, I just think it’s awesome that we’re all here together with our classmates. Whether you’re going to college or working after high school, all of us are together, and it’s awesome,” said Allen County-Scottsville High School senior Ainsley Gardner.
“As a senior in Covid-19, we didn’t get a lot of our events that we normally do. Now that it’s finally winding down, we are getting somewhat normalcy at the end of our senior year, we’re all together,” said senior Kierra Owens.
“This is a program that I’m glad our school is implementing so we can have a good send off,” said senior Zander Wimpee.
This is the second year for this event. It was also planned for last year, but it ultimately didn’t happen due to the pandemic. Not even the pandemic stopped the students from going after their intended goals, as school staff say students already have gotten a head start in life.
“Some of these kids have certifications, they’ve had pathways in the careers they’re going into. This is great for the kids, and the teachers as well to see where they’re going,” said high school and tech center college and career counselor Laura Carter.
Seniors could also leave messages of gratitude to teachers both former and current, and they say, it’s all thanks to the district for making these events possible.
