Beshear: Mask mandate unlikely during fall semester

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As we finish up this school year, Governor Andy Beshear is looking ahead to next year. As of now, students may be able to return to school unmasked.

During his daily press briefing Monday, Beshear said he does not foresee the mask mandate being in effect for schools going into next fall.

Beshear credited this to the increasing number of vaccinations for most Kentuckians including many school age children.

“We will watch everything, but right now, I think kids will be back in a very normal setting,” Beshear said.

Overall, parents in this area of the state said they’re very happy to hear that the world of education is taking another step closer to normalcy.

“I’m happy that we’re going to move past this. It’s a step in the right direction,” said parent GeorgeAnn Treece.

“That’s a very good thing. This school year has been a challenge for the students and teachers trying to educate in the midst of all the mandates,” added parent Marty Treece.

According to updated guidance from the CDC, students should continue to wear face masks for at least the remainder of this school year.
