The home of the Preakness will get more than a face-lift in the coming years. Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore has fallen into disrepair over the past few decades to the point that part of the grandstand is condemned. But after years of uncertainty, the owners of the track and government officials struck a deal to completely overhaul Pimlico and keep the Preakness in Baltimore. The construction likely won’t begin until next year and could take until late 2023 to complete. A track surface problem at nearby Laurel Park forcing an early move to Pimlico this year showed why the old place is still valuable to horse racing in Maryland.
