Child donates money from a lemonade stand to the animal shelter

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A little girl is doing big things to help local animals stay healthy and find safe and loving homes.

Virginia Brisolara, a local second grader, has a dog named Lady from the Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society that she has grown to love.

Because of her love for animals, one day, Virginia told her mom she wanted to raise money for the shelter.

She decided to try to sell pens and pencils but, found selling lemonade much more successful.

After selling lemonade for a day, she raised around $300 for the shelter.

“Lady came from the shelter too so I thought, what if animals got adopted and came and went to homes from the animal shelter, so I just donated money,” said Virginia.

Virginia’s mother, Kathryn Briscolara, is so proud of her.

“She has a very good heart for other people and especially for animals. You know, she loves our dog that we got from the Humane Society and she loves cats, dogs. She says she loves snakes too but I don’t know about that, and spiders. She said all of the animals deserve to have money to help with them with support in any way,” said Briscolara.

Lorri Hare, the director of the Humane Society, said the community in Warren County is very supportive of the shelter, but this was especially sweet.

“It kind of brings tears to your eyes, to be honest with you. She was so precious, and you could see when she saw the animals she lit up. She was a little shy because we were giving her a lot of attention, but it is just so wonderful of her and her parents to do that,” said Hare.

The shelter can always use donations of cleaning supplies, blankets, dog toys and financial donations to help upkeep the animals and the facility.

Virginia’s mom said she expects her daughter will want to do another one in the future and is proud of her for her generosity and care for animals.
