Mammoth Cave seeks comments on proposed trail upgrade
CAVE CITY, Ky. (AP) — Mammoth Cave National Park is seeking public comment on a proposal to upgrade a popular cave route trail. Park spokeswoman Molly Schroer told the Bowling Green Daily News that plans call for using sustainable materials along the Frozen Niagara Tour. That includes using only concrete for the trail surface, adding an 18-inch high curb along each side, upgrading steps and replacing handrails. Schroer said the aim is to create a safer walking surface that adds protection to cave resources and requires less maintenance. The public is invited to provide comments through May 26.
