Conners builds 1-shot lead at Bay Hill as McIlroy lurks

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Corey Conners takes a one-shot lead into the weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. The Canadian was grinding for pars instead of firing away for birdies on increasingly crusty greens. It worked well enough for a 69. Conners made eagle on the par-5 16th for the second day in a row. He led by one shot over former Bay Hill winner Martin Laird. Two shots behind was Rory McIlroy. He looked certain to join Conners until a couple of wayward drives left him little choice but to pitch out. Jordan Spieth was among those four behind.
