Warren County Schools Martin Luther King Jr. Event held virtually
BOWLING GREEN Ky.-Saturday, a local school district held a virtual Martin Luther King Jr. event.
The Warren County Schools held the virtual event in place of what would normally involve a large gathering at Warren Central High School. This was the seventh year for this celebration.
The event opened with a statement from Warren County Schools Superintendent Rob Clayton, followed by student musical performances, the reading of essays relating to Dr. King’s legacy and words from guest keynote speaker Nikita Stewart, a New York Times reporter who is a graduate of the local school system and Western Kentucky University.
Warren County Schools director of human resources Michele Tolbert said it’s essential that the legacy of Dr. King continues to be talked about to a new generation of kids.
“So many years have passed since his life. A lot of young people are not even aware of what he stood for and what he did. I think it’s important that we have events such as this to educate as much as anything,” Tolbert said.
The songs performed by students included God Bless America, Lean On Me and Imagine.
