Family’s RV sparks Louisville bomb scare

(WAVE/NBC News) A family’s stop at the Kentucky Science Center triggered a bomb scare and evacuations in downtown Louisville Friday after they parked their rented RV outside of the building.

Tyler Coyle, his wife and three kids rented the RV months ago in preparation for a road trip that began in their home state of Missouri.

“We came on a trip and parked downtown next to some big buildings,” Coyle said. “I can understand other people’s perspectives on that.”

He said they put the coordinations into Google Maps and it sent them to a parking lot behind the Science Center, which was closed for construction.

“So, we just parked at the meters because it’s New Year’s Day and they are free,” Coyle said. “Didn’t think anything of it. We actually walked by when we were done with the Science Center to go to lunch. And there was no commotion. When we came back from lunch, the streets were closed and we couldn’t get there. But when we told [police] where we were trying to go they became really interested.”
