Local library now providing a delivery service
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Public Library has some exciting changes underway to make the library a better and safer experience for the community.
Right now, the downtown library location is closed to the public due to construction, but the public can place a hold on an item online and pick it up curbside or, using the new feature, can have items dropped off at their homes.
Delivery drivers now will bring a book or movie to your home upon request at no cost to you, according to Jim Nelson, the Warren County Public Library main branch manager.
“That could be a book. It could be a movie. It could be a sewing machine. It could be a jewelry tool kit. It could be baking pans. These are all non-traditional items that the library has begun offering over the last year or so,” said Nelson.
There must be at least five items to deliver, and they do not pick the items back up.
The reason for the new system is partially due to construction and partially to keep a better social distancing in place for the public.
Tessa Norris, the library delivery driver, says kids and adults alike are benefiting.
“With the virtual learning, more kids are at home right now more often than normal so we are delivering to a lot of kids, but also it’s great for, I have a lot of patrons that are a little farther out and don’t make it to the downtown area very often,” said Norris.
The construction is another exciting change coming to the branch, an expansion.
“We’re adding a programming space for our children’s department, adding administration offices on one part of the building and also remodeling our meeting space so that we can accommodate larger organizations,” said Nelson.
Upon completion of the construction, the State Street public library location will have more space for children and adults meeting spaces.
