Sheriff speaks out against police using choke holds
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In the wake of police-involved deaths nationwide, a local sheriff is speaking out about the use of force.
Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower says deputies and police alike are not trained to use choke holds or to place their knee on the neck of a restrained person. Prior to becoming sheriff, Hightower retired from the Bowing Green Police Department.
He says what happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis is unacceptable.
Hightower reminds the public the goal of policing is to serve the community and every single person in it.
Hightower says his deputies are educated and up to date on the department’s use of force policy.
