How to avoid scams during the 2020 Census

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the 2020 Census count starting soon, officials in Bowling Green are reminding the public to be aware of scammers.

Sue Parrigin, a Bowling Green City Commissioner and the chair of the local census committee, said scammers will likely try to obtain personal information while posing as census workers.

She said the census workers and questionnaires will have official federal identification and will not ask for bank account information, finances or passwords.

The official website for the census is census.gov, any other site is not legitimate.

Sometime in mid-March, the public will receive a letter in the mail from the federal government guiding residents to the official website to fill out the census form.
