Royse outlines priorities after Glasgow reelection

GLASGOW, Ky. (WNKY) — Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse says managing growth, improving infrastructure and replacing the city’s aging No. 1 fire station will be among his top priorities after winning another term Tuesday.

Royse defeated challenger Bob Miller with 83% of the vote.

Growth and infrastructure

Royse pointed to industrial growth as one of the accomplishments he is most proud of, citing Tate Inc. and Union Coating and Chemical coming to the area, plus other industries adding second and third shifts.

Looking ahead, Royse said one of the city’s most immediate needs is replacing its No. 1 fire station, which dates back to 1951.

“We need to build a new fire station,” Royse said. “We’ve got to get that going.”

He also wants additional infrastructure around Glasgow’s Veterans Outer Loop as the city continues to grow.

Royse said the broader challenge is making sure streets, roads and other infrastructure keep pace with development.

Questions about data centers

Royse also addressed ongoing discussion about data centers in Glasgow and Barren County, saying he believes too many questions remain about their potential impact.

“Right now, there’s too much guessing,” Royse said.

He said he wants more evidence about whether data centers could affect the environment or place additional strain on the power grid before moving forward.

“Nobody has presented that information, and I find that a little bit troubling to be moving forward with it,” Royse said.

Looking ahead

Royse called the election result humbling and said Glasgow residents are willing to speak up when they have concerns.

“Sometimes I can learn so much just by listening,” Royse said. “I don’t learn a lot by talking, but I learn a lot by listening and I’m looking forward to doing that.”

Royse said the support he received Tuesday has him ready to get started on another term.
