Man arrested after woman found dead in Muhlenberg County

MADISONVILLE, Ky. – One man is charged with murder after a woman was found dead in Muhlenberg County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, on Monday, Oct. 5, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office responded to conduct a welfare check at a residence on Wild Horse Lane in Bremen.
Authorities say a dead female was located in the residence.
After troopers were contacted for assistance, they say they identified the woman as 39-year-old Amber DeArmond of Drakesboro.
Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed DeArmond sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
An autopsy has been requested. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office says it assisted with the investigation, and DeArmond’s family was notified.
Troopers say they later located 33-year-old Skyler Shanks of Bremen on KY-70. Shanks tried to avoid law enforcement by hiding under the porch of a residence before running, according to authorities.
Troopers say they gave Shanks verbal commands to stop as he fled toward the woods.
According to authorities, a trooper deployed his taser, and Shanks was taken into custody.
Shanks was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. He faces charges of murder-domestic violence, tampering with physical evidence, criminal trespassing in the first degree, fleeing or evading police in the first degree, resisting arrest, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and public intoxication.
The investigation remains ongoing.
