Teen charged in connection with string of vehicle thefts in Daviess County
DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. – A teen has been tied to multiple alleged vehicle thefts in Daviess County.
According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, on Sept. 18 around 9 a.m., deputies responded to the 5500 block of Pleasant Valley Road regarding a reported intruder that had entered the residence earlier that morning and had fled the area.
Upon arrival, authorities say the homeowner reported a mower had been stolen from the property.
Deputies say they identified a 17-year-old who lives in the Maceo area as the primary suspect.
Authorities say the teen was found and questioned. During this time, deputies say the teen admitted to being inside the residence earlier that morning.
According to deputies, he admitted he had used a stolen four-wheeler to travel to the scene.
Authorities say the teen was transported to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office for further questioning. Through additional investigation and evidence collected, the teen was charged with theft and damages to two vehicles in the 3900 block of South Hampton Road, as well as the theft and damaging of an additional vehicle in the 3200 block of South Hampton Road.
Deputies say the stolen mower from the Pleasant Valley Road residence was found on South Hampton Road.
During the next few days, authorities say detectives with the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office General Investigations Unit continued the investigation and developed additional evidence linking the teen to multiple other vehicle thefts throughout eastern Daviess County over the past several months.
Most of the thefts were in the Maceo area, authorities say.
On Tuesday, Sept. 22, authorities say the teen was charged with these thefts as well. Additional charges are possible.
The teen was transported to the Warren County Regional Juvenile Detention Center.
He is charged with third-degree burglary, six counts of theft by unlawful taking (auto) under $10,000, one count of theft by unlawful taking (auto) over $10,000, one count of theft by unlawful taking under $10,000 and second-degree criminal mischief.
