Controlled detonation of active tank shell occurs in Cave City

CAVE CITY, Ky. (Glasgow News 1) – A bomb squad reportedly carried out a controlled detonation of an active tank shell found in a Cave City apartment.

According to a report by Glasgow News 1, a resident contacted emergency services regarding the device.

In the report, Cave City Police Chief Paul Reynolds stated a caller reached out around 10:15 a.m. Monday from Glenwood Apartments about a tank shell in the unit.

According to Glasgow News 1, Reynolds stated the caller stated they had bought the shell roughly a year ago and had kept it on site.

Reynolds reportedly stated the resident had concerns the shell may be real and active, the report states.

The report further states officers sent images of the shell to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to Glasgow News 1, Reynolds stated first responders were advised to contact a bomb squad to “dispose of the potential explosive.”

The report says a bomb squad was able to remove the shell from the residence before detonating it at a remote location “away from homes and businesses.”
