Parade of Homes showcases local builders
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The Parade of Homes is underway in south-central Kentucky, giving visitors an opportunity to tour local homes, see current building trends and gather ideas for their own projects.
The annual event, presented by the Builders Association of South Central Kentucky, features 11 homes this year. The homes vary in size and style, including custom homes and homes that are available for purchase.
Colby Henon, a general contractor with Tony Henon Construction and vice president of the Builders Association of South Central Kentucky, said the variety is one of the highlights of this year’s event.
“The Parade of Homes is an event put on every year by the Builders Association of South Central Kentucky,” Henon said. “It’s a showcase of homes built by local builders.”
One of the homes featured in this year’s parade is a 13,000-square-foot custom home with a separate pool house.
Henon said visitors do not have to be planning a new home to benefit from the event. He said people can find ideas for remodeling, decorating and other projects.
“The parade of homes gives people ideas that they can take home and use on their own projects,” Henon said.
The event also gives visitors a chance to meet local builders and other professionals involved in the construction industry.
“I think it’s extremely important for people to come out and meet the builders and build a relationship and get to know one another,” Henon said.
The Parade of Homes has been a south-central Kentucky tradition since 1976. Henon said the event continues to give people a chance to see new trends and styles while showcasing local craftsmanship.
Tickets cost $10 and provide access to all participating homes for all four days. Children 12 and younger get in free with an adult.
The parade runs Sept. 17-20. Hours are 5-8 p.m. Thursday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
The Builders Association of South Central Kentucky is also offering Smart Cards for $50. Henon said the cards provide discounts from about 13 local businesses, and purchasing a Smart Card includes a free Parade of Homes ticket.
Tickets are available online at BASCKY.com, at the Builders Association office at 859 Lovers Lane and at participating homes during the event.
