Kentucky State Trooper rescues family after Hardin County crash

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – A Kentucky State Trooper rescued a family after a crash in Hardin County.

According to KSP, troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a rollover on Interstate 65 southbound near the 87-mile marker Friday afternoon. A witness told police that one of the vehicles overturned and a family was trapped inside.

KSP says Trooper Blaine Miller was in the area responding to a separate incident and arrived at the crash scene immediately. Trooper Miller located a family of four inside the vehicle, which was beginning to catch fire.

Trooper Miller safely removed all four occupants from the vehicle, according to KSP.

KSP says the occupants, Samantha Bloom, 28; Joshua Bloom, 22; Sarah Bloom, 26; and Savannah Bloom, 24, of Louisville, KY, all sustained minor injuries.

KSP’s preliminary investigation indicates that a tractor-trailer driven by Steven Hawkins, of Munfordville, was traveling south when it merged from the middle lane to the right lane. Investigators say the tractor-trailer forced a vehicle, driven by Savannah Bloom, off the right shoulder of I65. Bloom’s vehicle overturned multiple times.

Hawkins did not sustain injuries in the crash.

The Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County EMS, Glendale Fire Department, Central Hardin Fire Department, and Elizabethtown Fire Department assisted Kentucky State Police during the investigation.
